Por qué cada vez más hogares apuestan por baterías solares en 2026
2026 Trend

More and more homes with solar panels are adding a battery. And it is no coincidence: the value of the energy you export to the grid is falling, while the value of the energy you use yourself keeps rising. Here is why a battery has become the smartest decision for your solar installation.

Context: Spain's electricity regulator (CNMC) has raised, in a proposal still under study, the possibility of capping how much surplus installations can export to the grid in areas with heavy solar generation. It is not yet in force, but it marks a clear trend.

What is happening with surplus energy

When your panels produce more than you consume at that moment, the surplus is exported to the grid. In return, you get a credit on your bill. The problem: as more solar installations come online, that credit keeps shrinking, and there is now talk of limiting how much can be exported in some areas to avoid overloading the grid.

In everyday terms: the energy you give away to the grid is worth less and less. The energy you keep for yourself is worth more and more.

This is where the battery comes in

The idea is simple

Instead of giving your midday surplus away to the grid, you store it in a battery and use it in the evening, when you get home, switch on the lights, run the washing machine or charge the car. Exactly when grid electricity is most expensive.

The result is that you make far better use of your own solar production (your "self-consumption rate") and buy much less electricity from the utility. Your bill drops further, and your installation pays for itself sooner.

Three reasons to consider a battery in 2026

  1. More independence. You use your own energy day and night, with fewer surprises when electricity prices rise.
  2. More real savings. Every kWh you draw from your battery is a kWh you do not pay the utility at market price.
  3. More future value. If surplus exports are capped or paid less, the battery protects the profitability of your installation.

Frequently asked questions

Can I add a battery if I already have panels?

In many cases yes. There are batteries that retrofit to existing installations. An installer can review your current inverter and recommend the best option.

Will a battery keep my lights on during a blackout?

It depends on the equipment. Some systems offer a backup function that keeps part of the home powered during a grid outage. If this matters to you, mention it when you request your quote.

What size battery do I need?

It depends on your evening consumption and how much autonomy you want. Bigger is not always better: the ideal is to size it to your real consumption pattern so the investment makes sense.

Shall we calculate your savings with a battery?

Tell us your consumption and whether you already have panels. We will recommend the battery that best fits your home and estimate how much you would save, at no commitment.
